Well, actually, it is the Harvard Museum of Natural History (HMNH). But this gem of a museum may well claim the above title, with the amazing specimens in its permanent displays.
And this winter, through January 8, 2017, the Museum is going a step further, celebrating the latest Harry Potter movie with a Fantastic Beasts Scavenger Hunt throughout its galleries. The HMNH website promises many delights of discovery to aspiring Scamanders: “Climb a 150-year-old staircase, explore a maze of hallways and hidden rooms, peek around corners and into shadows to discover the real creatures and stories behind unicorns, yetis, nuns and other fantastic beasts…” Sounds like a fun activity to pencil in during the holidays for all those Harry Potter fans out there.
For those who aren’t familiar with the Harvard Museum of Natural History, please put it on your list for when you are next in the area – it is a hidden treasure in the heart of Cambridge, MA. Visits are free on certain days for Massachusetts residents, and discounted passes are available through most libraries in the region (check this page on the HMNH website for more details). And don’t miss the gift store (shamefully, often my favorite stop in museums), which has an eclectically-curated selection of books, toys and artifacts for curious minds.
